Intellectual PropertY

Intellectual Property Agreement

Intellectual Property (IP for short) sums up the creative ideas, experimental methodologies, research findings, and insightful interpretations that are created and/or carried out in labs, studios, and offices across campus. Ownership of IP is well-established by University Policy, as is any royalty derived from it. While IP can be a complicated subject, the key concern for any undergraduate student is to recognize that their mentor may have significant plans for the IP that is part of a faculty-mentored, undergraduate research project. In all cases, it is the undergraduate researcher’s responsibility to clearly discuss IP issues with their mentor, and to receive explicit permission prior to disseminating in any fashion (poster, abstract, paper, Web posting, etc.) the IP of that project.
